About
WHO ARE WE?
Sarisha Wildlife And Ecology Society established as a Non-Governmental Organization on 3rd June 2014 is registered under the West Bengal Society Registration Act, 1961.
We are determined to tackle major issues such as, Human Wildlife Conflict, Natural Resource Management, Wasteland Management, Forestland Conservation through effective conservation strategies, cutting-edge research and community engagement.
A decade since its establishment, we have been a part of multiple noticeable activities starting from Elephant Management Planning in Southern West Bengal to Pangolin Conservation in East India. As a Pioneer, we are first to cultivate Medicinal and Aromatic Crops in the farmlands of West Bengal. Under our multiferous initiatives, we have supported over 200 families, directly and 500 more, indirectly.
We envision a civilization, cherishing and preserving its natural heritage for a flourishing wildlife and human welfare linked to a healthy environment.

OUR GOAL
Today, the forest habitat is so fragmented that it was never experienced before. In this fragile landscape, wildlife faces multidimensional threat which brings most of them on the brink of extinction. In this hostile scenario, human wildlife co-existence is the only way to ensure a thriving ecosystem throughout the world. WNE - India's approach is to ensure this co-existence among the human and wildlife. As per the 2030 Agenda of Global Sustainable Development, which is continuously promoted and adopted by all United Nations Member States since 2015, provided a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for the living beings and the planet in near future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which calls for immediate action all across the world - developed and developing - in a global partnership. Out of these 17 goals, we are currently working on the 10.

OUR MISSION

MONITORING, MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION
Regular monitoring of wildlife is a basic way to understand the persistence of the ecology. When monitoring reports predicts any instability, wildlife management and conservation follows. Our mission is to ensure the regular monitoring of wildlife inside the habitat and impose management planning and conservation measures in the necessary areas. As per the requirement, we execute both species specific and habitat specific wildlife management and conservation plannings.
STOP ILLEGAL TRADE & POACHING OF WILDLIFE
Hunting, poaching and illegal trading of wildlife is one of the major threat for the wildlife which is heavily caused by supply and demand chain for its necessity in various form. Our mission is to hamper the supply chain massively by providing the grassroot level forest dwellers (who are organizing crime) proper alternative livelihood, strengthening the ground level networking to act before the crime, capacity building programs to enhance the forest frontline staffs and helping in enforcing laws against the people who are involved in the demand chain.

NATURE FRIENDLY SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Without the sustainable development of the forest dwellers, it is not possible to save our ecosystem as they are the eyes of the forest. Nobody knows a forest better than its adjacent villagers. Our aim is to promote nature friendly sustainable development programs for them to strengthen their economic condition. We majorly promote Ecological Farming, Non-Timber Forest Procurement, Cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic (MAP) Crops in low fertile lands, Value Addition in Traditional Crops, Animal Husbandry and Argo-Forestry Programs.
REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINTS
Due to massive urbanization and various site-specific developmental projects such as Open Crust Coal Mining, Hydro Electric Thermal Projects etc. the forest habitat is getting massively disturbed, resulting in an unrest the ecology of the forest. As a result, carbon footprints are rising which is causing Global Warming. Our aim is to reduce this carbon footprints through major plantation drives for forest restoration programs, along with other activities which are directly and indirectly reducing the same.

SPREAD AWARENESS AMONG THE YOUTH
We believe to fight against climate change, we need an army who will support the conservation of natural resources and forest lands. For this, our mission is to spread awareness among the youths in various forms such as, School Awareness Programs, Village Awareness Programs, Street Plays, Rally for Wildlife etc. so that they can stand with us to fight against climate change. Making an environmentally aware society for the upcoming future is our aim to fight against all odds.
OUR APPROACH

SCIENTIFIC STUDY, DATA COLLECTION & ANALYSIS
To understand any situation and predict its future, it is very important to organize scientific studies. Our view towards our goal is totally based on scientific measures. We focus on collecting data from multiple sources (such as governmental organization, research papers and local villagers) to understand the issue with different aspects. After analyzing all the possible aspects, we come to a conclusion before taking proper steps. We also focus on scientific research publication to spread the knowledge among the same field community.
TECHNOLOGY BASED ACTIVITY
Nowadays, Human Wildlife conflict has increased very much due to rapid habitat fragmentation and anthropogenic pressure. To reduce the conflict, application of technology in our sector is very important today. In all of our activities we usually focus on the implementation of technology. Infrared Camera Trapping, AI based Camera Trapping, Drone Monitoring, GIS Based Mapping and Remote Sensing, LULC Mapping, Contour Mapping, Natural Resource Management, Forest Land Monitoring, DGPS Survey, Drone Survey etc. are the current technologies which we are using in our working areas. Our R&D team is actively developing technologies aimed at understanding wildlife communications and creating an Automatic Natural Intruder System which will help intervene and prevent poachers from engaging in illegal hunting and trading of wildlife.

NATURE FRIENDLY INDUSTRY & INFRASTRUCTURE
We consistently prioritized developing and enhancing agricultural infrastructure as a key strategy to boost the agriculture sector and uplift farmers' livelihoods. We are actively expanding the agricultural sector by cultivating high-demand aromatic and medicinal plants like Chemomile, Mentha. Our approach is to maximize production, integrate these crops into various industries and introduce diverse agro-based value-added products like Triphala, tamarind, hand pound rice to the market. Through innovation and market expansion, we are forming Self Help Groups to drive sustainable growth and industrial development. Near future, we are hoping to enter in Agri-Allied market like- sericulture, Apiculture and also stepping forward towards integrated farming approaches.
HABITAT CONSERVATION & ARTIFICIAL CORRIDOR
Habitat conservation can be achieved by creating protected areas, restoring degraded ecosystems, and promoting sustainable land-use practices. To ensure the survival of wildlife we must conserve the forest habitat. By building capacity and training local communities, we empower them to protect and restore wildlife habitats. Their active participation ensures sustainable conservation and biodiversity preservation. In our efforts to protect wildlife, we are committed to reducing the disruption of natural wildlife movements by thoughtfully altering their pathways. By constructing artificial corridors, we provide safe passage for these magnificent creatures, ensuring they can traverse their habitats with minimal conflict. Our initiatives aim to harmonize human activities with the natural rhythms of wildlife, fostering coexistence and preserving the delicate balance of ecosystems. We developed an artificial corridor for elephants in the southern region of West Bengal.

GRASSROOT LEVEL NETWORKING
Regular monitoring of wildlife is a basic way to understand the persistence of the ecology. We are establishing a network with grassroot tribal communities to promote sustainable biodiversity conservation and management in future. We empower local communities through targeted training and capacity-building initiatives at the grassroot level. We work closely with local communities who play a crucial role in monitoring and providing us with information about any illegal activities surrounding and within forested regions. Their support helps us take necessary measures to prevent and mitigate such activities, contributing to the protection of wildlife and natural ecosystems. Through this collaboration, we strengthen conservation efforts and ensure better protection of biodiversity.
