On the night of Buddha Purnima Santhali tribes do hunt wild animals in the name of tribal rituals at Ajodhya Pahar of Purulia District. In the name of tribal customs each year near about one lac Santhali tribes from all over the world gather and kill near about ten to fifteen thousands wild animals (wild boars, barking deer, Indian hare, Indian Pangolin etc) and violate Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
This year with the help of forest department and local some tribal people we organize a door to door awareness program which gives us a very positive impact on the night of tribal hunting festival.
As a result we have seen no wild animal has been killed on that particular festival.
